Thank you for visiting my website! Here you will find my current research projects and teaching background.
I am Assistant Professor of Political Science at Lamar University since Fall 2021.
My teaching focus is on Comparative Politics and my research straddles Comparative and International Relations.
My research interests are in ethnic conflict and violence, civilian-military relations, state building, environmental politics, and gender politics.
In Summer 2017 I conducted field work in Khartoum, Sudan for my dissertation chapter The Sudanese Experiment: Sudan's Military Reconstruction 1972-1983 (under review)
In January 2019 I completed fieldwork in the Amolatar district, Northern Uganda, for a new project on climate change, women's adaptive capacity, and gender roles.
I completed my Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of California Riverside; my dissertation analyzed when Military Reconstruction is successful after ethnic civil wars. Prior to that I received a Master of Arts degree from Boston College in Modern Irish History, where my focus was on the relationship between religion and nationalism during the long nineteenth century (1798-1916). For over a decade I have been teaching at Community Colleges, R1 Research universities, and public universities in Massachusetts, California, and now Texas.
